5-HTP is another amino acid and it is a direct precursor of the “happy hormone” serotonin that makes our lives in this world more joyful. Serotonin is also associated with the “sleep hormone” melatonin. The chemical compound 5-HTP is not found in food, so if your diet does not contain enough tryptophan, you cannot use it to produce 5-HTP or, consequently, the much needed serotonin.

What is 5-hydroxytryptophan?

5-HTP is an amino acid and a precursor of serotonin, used in various medical preparations. At Biogena, they extract it from the seeds of the African plant Griffonia simplicifolia. This handy amino acid is fundamental for the biosynthesis of both serotonin and melatonin.
