Invincible like the goddess Aparajita
Butterfly pea (Clitoria ternatea) is a beautiful tropical climbing plant with several nicknames – butterfly pea, pigeon wings, bluebell vine – and in English most often butterfly pea flower. Ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine have known this enchanting plant for hundreds of years, while the Western world has only rediscovered it in recent years. The trend became the blue tea, a turquoise-colored beverage made from butterfly pea flowers.
The Latin name Clitoria ternatea is connected to the Indonesian island Ternate and also to the resemblance of its flowers to the female vulva. It is no coincidence that tea, extracts, or powders from this plant are often sought out by women who desire harmony in their cycle and sexuality.
The flowers of butterfly pea are a rich source of antioxidants, especially flavonoids and the blue pigment anthocyanin. They even contain more of it than blueberries. In Ayurveda, blue tea made from butterfly pea has been used for thousands of years in ceremonies as a symbol of protection, love, and peace. It is also associated with the Hindu goddess Aparajita, whose name means “invincible.”
